Ex-military Schleicher ASK 21 Mi Gliders helped train and develop aviation skills for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) from 2014. They assisted aspiring aviators to learn the art of soaring and aerodynamics.
These whisper-quiet, self-launching Schleicher Gliders offered cadets a basic, robust, easy-to-fly aircraft equipped with dual front and back engine controls that facilitated straightforward engine management for cadets.

Schleicher ASK 21 Mi Glider Being Towed
The Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) held the 2014 National Aviation Competition (NAC14) at Bathurst Aviation Centre NSW (BATAC) 26 Nov 29 Nov 14.
*** Local Caption *** The objective of NAC14 is to conduct a national aviation competition in both powered and gliding disciplines with teams representing each AAFC Operational Wing. This is an opportunity for cadets to demonstrate their level of knowledge, skill and airmanship in a safe and competitive environment.
This is the first time the newly opened Bathurst Aviation Centre was used for this event. It was opened earlier this year by Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence the Hon Darren Chester MP. NAC14 also used three of 19 new gliders which have been purchased by Air Force for the AAFC.

*** Local Caption *** On 8th April 2015, the Australian Women Pilot Association (AWPA) Baton arrived via QANTAS Airlines at Adelaide Airport. The AWPA Baton Relay is a charity event with female pilots flying across Australia to raise awareness for cancer. Australian Air Force Cadet (AAFC), Leading Aircraftwoman Sarah Bradshaw, piloted the Adelaide Airport to Stonefield Airfield leg of the relay under the instruction of Pilot, Flight Lieutenant (AAFC) Cath Conway in the AAFC Glider.
* Please note the following distinction: Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC), along with Australian Navy Cadets and Australian Army Cadets are members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Cadets. ADF Cadets are participants in the youth development program conducted by the three services in cooperation with the community but they are not members of the ADF. Officer Cadets (Air Force) and Staff Cadets (Army) are trainee officers undertaking instruction at the Australian Defence Force Academy or the Air Force Officers' Training School or Royal Military College Duntroon, The terms 'ADF Cadets', 'Officer Cadets' and 'Staff Cadets' are not interchangeable. Trainee naval officers are not cadets; they are commissioned officers with the rank of Midshipman.

Darren Chester officially opened the Australian Air Force Cadets National Aviation Centre at Bathurst on 12 April 2014. The event also showcased the first of 19 new gliders that have been purchased by Air Force.
The Australian Air Force Cadets is an organisation, sponsored by the Royal Australian Air Force, which aims to develop leadership, initiative and self reliance in youths between the ages of 13 and 20 years.
